Update: Aux. Challenge 2008, Education Challenge 2009 have major revisions. The updated program is now Education Challenge 2010, EC 2010 is now in three sections, Marketing, or how to reach out to the Public, Where to hold classes, and Best Classroom Practices. The section on Classroom Aids has been removed. There will be a link to either the original presentation with the Class Aids below or the Class Aids section will be revised into a separate section, with links below as time permits.

The presentation I gave at GNATS (Great Northern Area Training Session) May 22, 2010 at Pier 36 in Seattle. Simple Guerrilla Marketing tricks for the Auxiliary and our classes. Easy ways EVERY Auxiliary member can become involved in building the Auxiliary. Included is a proposal for a District 13 wide unified plan to involve EVERY member of District 13 to build the Auxiliary and increase our visibility to the general public. (NOTE: All versions downloaded before GNATS are DRAFT versions.) The presentation runs 10 to 12 minutes.

Make Your Class More Interesting and Help the Students Learn Better
- Magnetic Boating Class Aids (pdf):Use for illustrating rules of the road, light combination’s, day shapes, pecking order and more. Multicolor Boat (sail, (port and starboard tack) and power), Lights, Day Shapes and more to make magnetic aids to use with a Magnetic White Board.
- Aids to Navigation–Class Aids: Cardboard ATON’s to demonstrate ATON’s. The teaching aids are designed to be placed on a table top so students can move around the table and view the Aids to Navigation from different view points and move the ATON’s around on the table to see different views and courses. Most of the Aids to Navigation class aids are about 4.25 inches tall.

Revisions to Instructor Notes & Class Revisions
ABC Ch 3 Navigating with ATONs. D-13 and National PowerPoints were combined with additional slides for tides, Islands and the Swinomish Channel. Has several pictures of ATONs to let students practice identifying ATONs. The Instructor Notes were expanded to help Instructors. June 24,2008.
